Notes | Following a guest lecture in 1909 and the publication of several of his works in the US, Freud was widely regarded as the patron saint, the patriarch of the new discipline of psychoanalysis, of the “talking cure” of neuroses, phobias and other ailments. In 1918 the Chicago Daily News described him as the world-renowned “father of psychoanalysis.” Especially in the aftermath of the traumatic experiences of many individuals in the World War I, the eyes of many were directed towards the new discipline and its healing potential (Zacharasiewicz, Transatlantic Networks 161). |
