Notes The magazine "appeared first in Vienna in 1930 as a mimeographed periodical, providing another piece of evidence for the contemporary appeal of Vienna as the location for new publishing ventures. The journal rapidly achieved status as a suitable medium attracting major fiction writers in this genre. Sherwood Anderson, William Faulkner, E. Hemingway, K. A. Porter contributed stories, and the periodical also included translations of foreign stories. Contributions by Whit and Martha, the two editors, continued to appear on its pages, together with some general essays. Among them were also articles by Dorothy Thompson. [During their time in Palma de Mallorca, Whit Burnett and Martha Foley published their magazine Story from 126 Calle del 14 de Abril (today Avinguda de Joan Miró).] During the early 1930s, the journal became quite successful and was eventually taken over by a publishing house in New York (see Zacharasiewicz, Transatlantic Networks, p. 127).
