Notes	The story seems to capture something of the pace and convivial lifestyle of the foreign journalists in Vienna at the time, as it renders the preparations for a New Year’s Eve in Vienna and its turbulent celebration by inebriated professionals. Among the characters mentioned in the story there is a figure named Mason, [sharing his name with the protagonist in Gunther's husband's novel "The Lost City"] absent from the party arranged by the hosts, Steve and his partner, the anonymous female first-person narrator, who are both foreign correspondents (Zacharasiewicz, Transatlantic Networks, p. 132).
