| Notes | When the boat carrying 908 Jewish refugees was refused docking both in Kuba and the US, many prominent members of the Canadian public urged the then-prime minister to let them dock at a Canadian port. However, Frederick C. Blaire, the director of the Government of Canada's Immigration Branch, refused as he feared further ships would then seek refuge in Canada. In the course of this, he infamously said: "the line must be drawn somewhere." |
