Notes | In 2000, the prominent Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor (author of the seminal study on the development of modern religious consciousness, A Secular Age, Harvard UP 200747), in the main part of his lecture, delivered in Vienna, Die Formen des Religiösen in der Gegenwart, extensively analyzed William James’s philosophy of religion. The swift publication – in German as well as in English – of Taylor’s re-reading of James (Frankfurt: Suhrkamp 2002; Harvard UP 2002) contributed substantially to the revival, in recent European and Anglo-American discourse, of the philosophical debate about religion. (Nagl in "Ideas Crossing the Atlantic" 172). |
