Notes | In this eulogy, Conway focused on Vienna's musical character as home of famous classical composers, in particular the Strauss family (Zacharasiewicz 2021, 60). The stereotypical image of Vienna as the "Mecca of Music" (ibid) long survived the downfall of the Habsburg monarchy and strongly shaped tourist interest in the city. This image of Vienna also led to several Americans moving to Vienna for music instruction. |
