Notes | Leopoldi's attempt to flee to Czechoslovakia failed and he was interned in the concentration camps Dachau and Buchenwald. In February 1939, his freedom was purchased by his American relatives, the parents of his first wife. In the States, Leopolid married Helly Möslein, another emigrant from Central Europe. He americanized the songs he had composed. Upon his return to Vienna, he avoided referernces to his experiences in concentration camps and during emigration. |
