    Notes After a dozen years in China, Waln and her husband, George Edward Osland-Hill, relocated to Germany in 1934 where Waln noted increasing tensions and Anti-Semitic sentiments among the population. She describes these experiences in her book "Reaching for the Stars" (1939) (see Zacharasiewicz, Transatlantic Networks, pp. 218).
