Notes | Born in Vienna on September 4, 1897, Miriam Beer-Hofmann was the daughter of Richard and Paula Beer-Hofmann. She was the inspiration for her father's poem "Schlaflied fuer Miriam." She was employed as a social worker and married Ernst Czuckza, a social worker and businessman, in 1924. They emigrated to Amsterdam in 1934, Paris in 1936, Great Britain in 1938, and the United States in 1940. They changed their surname to Lens when they were naturalized in 1947.
