| Notes | Viertel sent a petition that was also signed by Thomas Mann and Albert Einstein to former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to defend Eisler against accusations of un-American activities (Schreckenberger 2016, 176). Many of Viertel's screenwriter friends were asked to testify in Eisler's case and, subsequently, all lost their jobs. |
