Notes	Zuckmayer, faced with animosity because of his anti-militaristic stance and then ostracized by the Nazis in Germany, had spent much time in Henndorf on the Wallersee lake, north of Salzburg, where he had acquired a property already before 1927, and he had moved there permanently soon after the Nazis came to power. In the following years he was visited there by many writers and artists who were persecuted in Nazi Germany, and also by Dorothy Thompson. (Zacharasiewicz, Transatlantic Networks, p. 253).
