Notes | This umbrella organisation combined next to the two big players (the ARA and the Red Cross), the Quakers American Friends Service Committee, the Federal Council of the Churches, the Knights of Columbus, the National Catholic Welfare Council and the YMCA and YWCA (Adlgasser 98). Their fundraising (Dec 1920 - 1 April 1921) raised almost 30 million dollars. An important tool was the idea of the Invisible Guest, the hungry child that was depicted on posters, as well as implied through empty chairs at fundraising dinners. |
