Notes In 1908 Josiah Royce traveled from Harvard to Heidelberg, where he delivered his keynote address at the 1908 World Congress of Philosophy, in which he presented – extensively, and in parts critically – the core ideas of American Pragmatism. At this meeting the first comprehensive international debate dealing with the new American philosophy took place. (Nagl in "Ideas Crossing the Atlantic", 159).
